We are not in the position to give you any medical advice, so please consult with your doctor in each case. However, the Smart Peak Flow can be helpful for any medical condition that requires tracking your peak flow values.

You will get life-time warranty for the device until you are subscribed for the app. This means, if the device stops working after 3 or 5 years, and you’ve kept your subscription on, you will get a new device free of charge.

Compatibility

If your phone has a headphone jack, you can just simply plug the device in. If it doesn’t have a headphone jack, you can use a suitable headphone jack adapter or you can use it with the bluetooth adapter included.

Just enable screen rotation and the app will adjust when you turn your phone upside down.

Apple has disabled the upside-down auto-rotate feature on newer iPhone models with a notch (due to Face ID). However, you can change this in your phone settings. See how.

If you are using a non-Apple lightning to audio jack adaptor, the device may not work as expected.

We suggest you use an adaptor for bluetooth phones.

If you encounter issues while using the device despite following the instructions of the user manual and the app, please complete the issue reporting form below. This will provide us with the necessary details to assist you effectively.

The app works on all phone models with operating system versions of iOS 10 or Android 5.0 and later.

The Bluetooth connection might be problematic for some Huawei phone models dating back to before 2018. To make sure, check with Huawei.

Smart Peak Flow

  1. Connect your device to your smartphone and launch the Smart Asthma app.
  2. Make sure you’re standing in a well-lit area and that you’re not covering the top window.
  3. Put the device into your mouth beyond your teeth and close your lips to form a seal around the mouthpiece.
  4. Press Start and when the app tells you to blow, take a deep breath with your nose and blow as hard and fast as you can out of your mouth. Keep the device still during the measurement to prevent the propeller from moving accidentally.
  5. Read the result on your screen and repeat two more times to get a total of 3 measurements – the app will only save the highest.

Watch our video guide, or read the section HOW TO MEASURE YOUR PEF VALUE in the User Manual.

No – the device is meant to be used by a single user.

We recommend that you clean the mouthpiece and the Smart Peak Flow meter device regularly to maintain the product as it works best when clean. Check the mouthpiece & device turbine after each use by looking at it. Make sure that they are clean and clear of foreign objects or substances.

You can clean both the mouthpiece & device in a bath of lukewarm water. Make sure both are dry before using it again.

We also recommend you keep your Smart Peak Flow device & mouthpiece in the carry bag when not using it.

For more information on cleaning, please refer to the section CLEANING AND DISINFECTION in the User Manual.

No, you cannot. For this reason it is recommended to add peak flow results right away after the measurement, if you use it with manual entry, without the Smart Peak Flow meter.

Yes! If you have lost the one that you got with the device, then you can purchase a new one on this website.

At the moment, we offer the mouthpiece in only one size. The connecting end is of standard size, while the other end is oval-shaped instead of circular.

Yes, the Smart Peak Flow meter is certified as a Class II.a Medical Device developed in accordance with the ISO13485 quality management system.

Yes, you can download the app for free and use the basic features. You can try tracking your peak flow with the manual entry option.

If your subscription period ends you will be downgraded to the basic app version. This still enables you to record your peak flow as you would with a mechanical peak flow meter, only with even more accurate results.

On the other hand, the Pro app instantly saves your results and provides access to an easy-to-read peak flow chart. This chart allows you to monitor your inhaler use, symptoms, and add notes to your measurements. You can effortlessly share your results with your family, doctor, or nurse. Additionally, you can grant your doctor 24/7 access to monitor your condition at any time if they are registered on our Console. The app lets you set up reminders to ensure you never miss a peak flow measurement, and it keeps you motivated to track your progress. You can also create personalized asthma action plans and receive predictions for your peak flow zone tomorrow.

At the moment it is not available from the NHS. We are working towards making the Smart Peak Flow available by prescription. This is a challenging endeavor that requires much effort and time. In the meantime, we aim to offer the benefits of the Smart Peak Flow to those interested in the most effective and cost-efficient way possible.

No, you require a separate subscription for each account since Smart Peak Flow is designed for single-patient use.

Yes, a difference in readings is expected for first time users. Our peak flow meter was proven to be more accurate than mechanical ones, so there is always a chance that your previous device was not as precise. If you are using a mechanical peak flow meter, it is possible that the internal parts may not be moving as well as they used to, giving a lower result. Conversely, if the internal parts are worn down this could lead to giving higher values.  As to which to trust, that is up to you.

Here you can find a research on the accuracy of a number of peak flow meters:  https://bmcpulmmed.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12890-019-0837-3

However, we recommend that you stick to using one meter for consistent results. This allows you to detect changes in peak expiratory flow (PEF) intensity over a specific period in a reliable way.

SMART RESCUE

Yes, if your phone has NFC capabilities. It is the same touch mechanism used for contactless payments.

You can check this in your phone’s connection settings or find information online in the description of your phone model. Also, you can only download the Smart Rescue app to your phone if it has NFC capabilities.

You can use it with MDI type inhalers. The Smart Rescue fits on the top of the inhaler’s canister and its button is pressed upon every inhaler actuation, if used correctly. You can read out the device while it’s on the inhaler.

Smart Rescue has a guaranteed lifespan of 2 years under normal usage conditions. If the device’s battery is running low, the app will notify you.

One Smart Rescue device is intended to be used with one inhaler at a time until it runs out of medication.
So you should apply Smart Rescue to your current inhaler in use. If your inhaler runs out, you can transfer the device onto a new one. Smart Rescue has a little light sensor on the bottom so it can detect the transfer and the app restarts the countdown from 200.

The Smart Rescue can provide you additional benefits in this case too. Such as tracking not just how many puffs you have left in your inhaler but also recording the time of the inhaler actuations, which can be helpful in identifying triggers or telling if you already have taken your medication on a certain day.

Upon changing to a new inhaler or using the Smart Rescue for the first time, check if your inhaler has a counter, and make sure you enter the number displayed on it when the app asks you where do you want to start counting from.

First, ensure you have removed the battery pull tab without tearing it, as torn pieces can obstruct the battery’s contact and cause errors.

Locate the NFC on your smartphone. You might need to experiment a bit to find the NFC ‘sweet spot.’ You can check your phone’s NFC location online based on your phone model.

When trying to read Smart Rescue, avoid constant device movement around the back of the phone. Instead, remove it and then bring it close again.

Once you manage to get a reading you need to hold the device there for the next reading too.

For a successful reading, hold the device against the back of the phone near the NFC for at least 3 seconds.
